After looking at the Harwood Design website and noting some of the creative but massive renovations the company has done in Winnipeg, my husband and I were afraid that our rural bathroom project might be somewhat sidelined. However, we needn’t have worried – the team at Harwood and their subcontractors gave our renovation the same careful consideration and attention to detail that they give to their larger projects.
Knowing nothing at all about aesthetics, I basically threw myself at the mercy of the designer, Mary, telling her that my main priority was a bathroom that was easy to clean with a free-standing tub and a grout-free shower. And maybe grey walls. That was it. The end result was a bright, beautifully designed space with heated ceramic tile floors, a clever storage area for the tub (free standing tubs are fun to soak in and a breeze to clean, but there’s nowhere for your shampoo), a large solid piece, easy-to-clean shower and attractive lighting in areas we hadn’t considered before.
Credit has to go to the owners, Jeff and Trevor, who have a knack for choosing precision-conscious but affable people to work with. Every tradesperson was a true professional who took pride in their craft and enjoyed telling me about their part of the process. We were impressed by everyone: the husband/wife team who laid the flooring, the meticulous painter who TOOK HIS TIME and the very honest plumber, Tim. He showed me where he’d accidentally nicked one of the shower door hinges and told me he would replace it with his own money. Thanks, Tim – I probably would not have noticed!
The only drawback to hiring Harwood is that our bathroom is so beautiful (my critical daughter gasped when she saw it) that now the rest of our house looks shabby!
We had a positive experience working with Harwood Design Builders. From the first time we contacted them to the end of the project they were professional, punctual, hard working and kept us involved in all aspects of the renovation. Trevor provided us with weekly updates that gave us confidence in how the project was going and what was coming next. The trades that Harwood works with were amazing and have come back to do other projects in the home following our renovation. We would highly recommend Harwood to anyone who needs work done in their home.
This project involved a complete renovation of the main floor and second floor. Removing walls, changing location of bathroom, adding an additional bedroom, and much more.
We would recommend Harwood Design Builders to anyone who wants to renovate or build a new home. The staff in this organization are all very courteous and respectful. If something wasn’t quite right or to our pleasing, they repaired or replaced to our satisfaction. We were VERY pleased with our completed renovation but also a little sad, as we had a wonderful working relationship with the skilled craftsmen who came to our home.

We really, truly love the entire design and function of our new home! It is bright, open and so beautiful; from fixtures, finishing (love that crown moulding and baseboards) flooring, cabinets, countertop, doggie door – you name it! Your designer was lovely to deal with and her design ideas—combined with ours of course ;)—made our home what it is today: perfect for us and ‘the posse’. We appreciated that she was always accomodating and accessible. She had great ideas, and respected ours. We like that she’d drop off samples for us with her recommendations and was flexible to meet up with us with her trusty laptop.
Altogether, it was a good experience and we would recommend (and already have) Harwood to anyone. All of the staff were very professional and easy to talk with. We appreciated that Jeff was available and if he wasn’t, he got back to us right away. His Friday reports were really nice. We liked that if we had questions on how things were being done he took time to explain why. Tony’s finishing is beautiful throughout our home. Having quality in every aspect is something Harwood should be proud of. Everything from the Harwood shirts the guys wore, to warning our neighbours that there would be noise, to really knowing what they were doing (very reassuring to us), to cleaning up at the end of the day was really appreciated.

It is seldom that one finds friends from what once started as a business deal with strangers. Our renovation was just one of those cases. We started with an idea to renovate our main floor, and although we had many demands, the actual project was not well defined. Harwood helped us get started and I began to see how this small family of workers took such pride and showed tremendous skill during every step of the renovation. They forged ahead making quality their first priority and the results clearly show that.
What we were most impressed by with, however, is the kindness and professionalism along the way. Each person that came into our home showed respect for our family and our project which made it bitter sweet as they finished. Our family certainly has had the perfect result from the renovations, an amazing living space, and friends we will be forever thankful to. We sincerely wish to thank Wayne and the Harwood family for converting our house into a home!

I would like to express my appreciation for the outstanding total renovation recently completed on my condo.
The quality of the workmanship is excellent and the work was completed efficiently and within budget. I especially appreciated the courteous and knowledgeable responses to my questions and concerns.
I have had several comments from others within the condo complex commending your staff for being the only contractors to have ever laid tarps in the hallways and taken such care to keep the common areas clean and intact.
I will certainly recommend Harwood Design Builders to others and thank you again for the great job.
UPDATE: It has been four years since we had Harwood complete our whole home renovation in 2017/18, and we still couldn’t be happier with the results. We see the outstanding quality of Harwood’s design and craftsmanship every day, in the way our space works so well (especially now that we’ve had our first child), and in the attention to detail that the team at Harwood brought to every aspect of our home. We can’t imagine taking on a project like this with anyone else!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Harwood not only designed, renovated and updated our whole home, but gave us a home that is distinctly ours. Through every phase of our project – from design, budgeting, through demo, build, and finishing – Wayne and his team demonstrated a superior and unparalleled level of professionalism, craftsmanship, and commitment. Our project was unique and complex, converting and updating a 1949 duplex into a modern single family home, while maintaining the mid century character and history of the space. Harwood’s team was simply outstanding, and understood what we were hoping to do from the beginning. Harwood reclaimed and restored existing trim, matched old and new materials seamlessly, and even designed and built custom radiator covers and replicated mid-century archways to ensure that our home felt restored and never just “updated”. Both Harwood’s team and their subcontractors were outstanding. Wayne and the team supported us through every step of the project, and through every issue that came up. Above all, they brought excellent and skilled project management, and our renovation was completed on schedule and with full clarity on budget and next steps all the way through.
Harwood is simply the best, and we are so grateful to have had a chance to work with them!
