Harwood Founder
Wayne Sage, is the owner and Certified Master Renovator of Harwood Design Builders. Wayne has a long and proud construction career that spans over four decades. He started in the trenches where, for 10 years, he worked his way from site labourer to site superintendent. Wayne moved on to construction management and project management, where he spent another ten years perfecting his skills before starting his own firm. Along the way Wayne received a diploma in building technology and business management. This well rounded and vast experience is the foundation of Harwood Design Builders and is why the company is able to produce superior Winnipeg renovations. Notable highlights of Wayne's career include:
- Guided Harwood Design Builders from a small one-man-show to the most awarded design build teams in Canada with a dedicated groups of employees and field crews, many of which are loyal members with more than 15-years of service
- The renovation and restoration of a 1940's, 110 foot sailboat in the Caribbean
- Renovation of Vancouver heritage building to a recording studio for Canada's biggest rock superstar
- Construction of some of the most beautiful timber frame homes along the coast of BC which have been featured in many publications
- Commissioned by the University of Winnipeg and Department of Fisheries and Oceans to design and construct a portable laboratory inside a shipping container which was sent to the North Pole for scientific exploration
Wayne also believes in giving back to the industry which he enjoys so much and for three years headed the building division of Winnipeg Habitat for Humanity. During that time Wayne:
- Oversaw the construction of the new restore facility;
- Managed the construction of 24 Winnipeg Habitat Homes as well as a new subdivision;
- Developed a prebuild training program for the hundreds of volunteers under his direction which was adopted by Habitat for Humanity USA for their volunteers, and was the subject of a feature story in Habitat International Magazine;
- Wayne has also travelled to the USA to participate in the hurricane relief effort and was asked to captain Team Canada at the Jimmy Carter International Habitat Build.
Wayne continues to evolve his business and his charitable efforts and started a foundation in response to requests he's received from smaller, local charities and causes who often have needs that are not addressed by the bigger foundations.
